The Most Important Things to Know Before You Start
Light-based hair removal is the most effective long-term solution available for home use — but it comes with important caveats worth understanding upfront.
It works best on dark hair against light to medium skin tones. The technology targets the melanin (pigment) in hair, which means it is less effective on blonde, red, grey, or white hair, and requires careful device selection for darker skin tones. Several modern devices have made significant progress on the skin tone limitation — our guides cover which devices work for which types in detail.
It also requires patience and consistency. Results don’t appear after one session. A full initial course typically involves 6 to 12 sessions spaced 2 to 4 weeks apart, with maintenance sessions afterward. The payoff is significant — but it is not instant.
